I'd love some help with coming up with names for my baby, since my husband vetoes most names I love.

We have a nearly three year old, Eli (Elijah).

For girls I like

Justine
Jemma/Jem
Bethany/Beth (DH loves this but I worry it's a bit American Bible Belt, or a bit "lispy"
Imogen
Charlotte
Marilla
Emeline

For boys I like:

Jonah (DH not keen...I love it and love Joe as a NN)
Noah
Oliver
Nathaniel/Nate
Seth

None of the other boys names come close to how I feel about Eli and Jonah.

Thanks!

From your list I love Jemma and Bethany. The lispy thing had never occurred to me to be perfectly honest!

If you love Joe as a nickname for a boy, have you considered Joseph? Elijah and Joseph sounds pretty good to me.

Great, Jemma is definitely a favourite, and I could come around to Bethany as both seem pretty and feminine without being too common. I've even considered "Jem" for a boy, Too Kill A Mockingbird style, but not sure if it might be too "out there" wink.gif

Joseph I can't quite come at because it makes me think of a Nativity scene and because it was the name of my infamous great great grandfather, who disappeared leaving his wife to raise 8 kids by herself (so a bit of a black sheep!)

Justine - really dislike
Jemma/Jem - lovely
Bethany/Beth - I prefer Beth or Bess as a nn, don't mind Bethany
Imogen - lovely
Charlotte - lovely but very popular
Marilla - dislike, reminds me of the drink Amarule
Emeline - lovely but prefer it spelt Emmeline

I like all of your boy names but Nate is probably my favourite.

Love Justine, loathe Seth.

Thanks, not at all sure abou Seth myself. Really scratching for boy's names. Glad you like Justine - it was the name I was given at birth before I was adopted...but would like a NN and can't think of one I like for it.

Thanks! Not sure about Marilla either...just have a bit of an Anne of Green Gables thing. wink.gif. I have also pondered whether Emmeline would be a better spelling. Doubt I could win over DH on that one, anyway...longish names seem to freak him out!

Justine- ok
Jemma/Jem- nice
Bethany/Beth- lovely
Imogen- lovely
Charlotte- lovely
Marilla- not at all keen
Emeline- this spelling looks weird but I love Emmeline, however, I'd avoid it with Elijah

For boys I like:

Jonah- ok, but definitely not with Elijah
Noah- lovely, but definitely not with Elijah
Oliver- lovely, but I probably wouldn't use it with Elijah
Nathaniel/Nate- Nathaniel is great but Nate is a nickname only for me
Seth- nice

With Elijah, I'd go for Seth and Imogen.

Seeing as you have a bit of an LM Montgomery thing going you could think about:

Cordelia
Marigold
Sara
Diana
Josephine
or the very cute Minnie May. I wonder if she has a longer name?

Gilbert
Matthew
James (nickname Jem)
Walter

I know a grown up Bethany, she has just graduated as a vet and she is a lovely, lovely young lady. I would pick that because every time I hear it, it reminds me of her and she is such a very nice person.
