We are going to future BIL's wedding next week and future SIL is pregnant. I just know there will be lots of 'when are you having a baby?' and 'are you guys trying yet?' questions. It was expected that we would have the first grandchild because we are older, already married, have a house blah blah blah... We are TTC but I definitely dont want the family to know.

Usually I hate these questions and just say I dont know, not for a while and change the topic. But I want to enjoy the wedding so have been thinking of funny/witty comebacks like 'we're not sure if we've perfected the method yet so we're still practicing'

Any suggestions?

My latest one is "No idea"

I have also used:

I've just paid for a wedding, i can't afford them.

"My SIL is having one, I am looking forward to being the aunt that spoils them"

"when i put a big enough dent in the mortgage to afford them"

"I'm not ready to give up my career at the moment" - it's non-family friendly & i have no option to work from home or part time.
They are not very witty - sorry.

I did say to someone "you tell me & I'll add your bet to the list"

A bloke I used to work with had a standard response: "we're just practising now. Because practice makes perfect".

It always got a smile.

is it only a dream that there'll be no more turning away?
My SILs use variations on "Can't have them. Don't want them."

My sister says that her PhD precludes her from breeding in captivity.

Before children, I used to just say "one day..." then smile and change the subject. It got wearing after 18 months though, so I couldn't imagine how mad it'd make you after a few years.

I used to say this, no one that knew of my issues though actually asked, those that didn't I was open about how I had this and this. They not only shut up but never asked again. I didn't go into the ins and outs of it all (because I am a bit private) but I did tell them straight.
