I know there are a few threads at the moment on fussy eaters but also wanted to get some thoughts from people about a fussy eater and if it's better to send the handful of things I know he eats or should I try and send the things I want him to eat next week when he starts preschool - I.e will pressure force his hand a little more.
He is fussy, only eats toast not sandwiches, likes plain biscuits (eg salads/breadsticks) won't do fruit/veg, does like cheese triangles that I make, yogurt but I cant seem to convince him those new squeeze style ones have the same thing in it!! He basically won't try new things. He did daycare last year for 6 months when DD was born, and basically refused in that time to eat. I would send the odd thing in his bag which I knew he ate which he did but I'm now thinking was that the wrong approach and should I be sending this year more variety to try and get him to eat it? |

I'd give a few new things a go, as I know that when my son started 3yo kinder I was amazed that he would just eat everything(!) that I put in his lunchbox, even though being Mr Fussy at home. They tend just eat because others are, so I'd def give some new things that he wouldn't normally eat a go, and see how it goes. All the best! |

My 4 year old started this week, some of the things she took were
- dried apple slices, sultanas - home made muesli bar (no nuts) - home made muffins - vegemite sandwich - carrot sticks - salami sticks - cherry tomato - rolled up ham Next week we're baking plain cookies, making popcorn, scones, and I've bought some hummus to dip some veggies in. (These were suggestions she made that her friends had). |

Thanks ladies, so far we have had success with him eating something which is a big step on daycare last year. I think next week I will start adding more into the lunch component and try to get him try new things.

For DS1, I found a sandwich that I know will be eaten, plus a variety of little snacks like cheese, crackers, ham, yoghurt, banana bread, which usually get eaten. Also an apple everyday (this is the only fruit my 5 yr old will eat, so it goes in ever day). If you put in a few items that you know he will eat, plus a new/different one now and then you may find that he will be so hungry some days he'll eat everything and try new things
