I have searched the forum already but just wondering if anyone has had an experience similar to mine....
So, I'm nearly 20 weeks and I had the first part of a root canal treatment done yesterday. I went in there to have an extraction but as its one of my biggest back teeth, ended up with a root canal as my least traumatic option.

The next stage is due in 3 weeks time and will involve X-rays. She said I could delay it until after the baby is born but I really doubt I will manage to get back there before the baby is 1!

The dentist used a different aesthetic while pregnant and she assures me that they use a lead apron anyway, but even without that, dental X-rays are perfectly safe for use during pregnancy.

I have already been taking antibiotics and panadiene forte all week and would be so happy to have this tooth problem done and dusted.

My midwife, gp and pharmacist all okayed the medication and the midlife suggested a probiotic once the course of antibiotics is completed. They all assured me that treating teeth problems is better than not treating them....

Just curious if anyone else has had the full root canal including X-rays while pregnant?

Yes, I did!

There was no other option, 2 days after finding out i was pregnant, my tooth flared up for the 3rd time after having it filled twice in the past 6mths. It required root canal.

I was in so much pain, it had to be treated.

My pregnancy subsequently was not an easy one, DD ended up being born at 34wks after being on complete bedrest since 32wks. Whether its related or not, i dont know. But developmentally, she is perfect.

I had root canal when pregnant with my first (in the first trimester). No problems there.

I too was assured it was fine. My OB said ok - he said the xray tends not to 'scatter' with a dental xray as it does with other, it is very direct or something.

I have since had a dental problem (different dentist) with my second and the dentist refused to xray at all. She did a temp fix and told me to come back after the baby was born.

So maybe call your OB/Dr and ask their opinion?

I didn't do it, just waited the pain out and went in for root canal a couple of months after baby was born.

I had the first part of a root canal while pregnant, with no X-rays needed. She took out the nerve, and put a temporary filling over it so that I had no pain. From the first lok at the tooth to finish product, it took just under a year! But my dentist want keen on me having X-rays while pg (even though its a very very low dose) and I was happy to wait.
