If money, time and space weren't an issue, and you had a breed of dog that is HIGHLY social, would you recommend two dogs?
We have a 3 year old golden retriever who is the most outgoing, dog and people loving pet you could imagine. We have a large backyard and have been thinking of getting another dog for him to play with. I am pg with baby #3 and will have three kids under three, so I'm worried our doggie won't get as much attention as he deserves, hence the idea of a playmate. I figure we're walking and feeding our dog every day anyway, will one more be too hard to manage? Thank you |

If you do decide to get another, consider adopting a retired greyhound.
They are a lovely dog, very laid back so don't need much exercise (but like it when they get it). They are carefully retrained before going to new homes. They like doing 'maddies' around backyards and are very sociable and lovable. My parents have one and he has been wonderful with my two from the day the came home from hospital. They crawled all over him and he didn't care one bit. |

http://www.greyhoundangels.com/ Both in Perth Greyhounds are great dogs. They're too lazy to care about the kids crawling all over them, happy to have a walk or just sleep on your floor. Quiet and pretty unobtrusive. Give one or both a call. They'll match you with the right dog. |

A woman I know just got a retired greyhound through greyhound rescue - problem being it was retired at age 2 and is still a massive big puppy and she is tiny and old. Not a good match! Definitely wasn't 'retrained' either, so watch out for that.

We have a Labrador and a staffy and they definitely keep each other company and entertained. The Staffy helps "offset" some of the Labby's exuberance and energy and they are great together.
I prefer to have two dogs. |

I've got five, so I'd definitely recommend more than one. I love watching my dogs interact with each other, they get so much pleasure from each others company.

Dogs are pack animals and certainly would be happier with a companion when you are away from home.

More dogs = more smiles
Pretty sure greyhounds in WA need to be muzzled in public, but don't let that put you off because there are plenty of absolute smoochers. Shenton Park Dog Refuge are great too if you are looking for an adult rescue This post has been edited by kiddies-n-kelpies: 01/02/2013, 12:38 AM |
