Yesterday, at DDs checkup, the dentist told us that once DD turns six, she should be using adult toothpaste, rather than the kids stuff.

Problem is, she fecking hates, with a passion that knows no bounds, anything minty flavoured. I tried her with a tiny touch of mine toothpaste this morning, and it was not a success, at all.

So, my question is - are there any non-minty adult toothpastes out there? Any with minimal mintiness?

What was the reasoning?? Surely kids toothpaste is better than nothing.. My 7 year old still uses it..

Have you looked in a health food/organic shop? I know one in the town I used to live in had different flavours and also flavourless toothpaste (not sure how truly flavourless it would be, though)

I would check out health food shops. Failing that, I would just stick to the kids toothpaste.

I remember when I was a kid a really special treat was bubblegum flavoured toothpaste, which was just from the supermarket at the time. I remember basically being a celebrity when I had it at grade 5 camp. I'm not sure if it's still sold.

Other than that, try health food shops - though I have a sneaking suspicion that the non-flouride-or-any-other-chemical toothpaste that my grandmother uses is clove flavoured, which might not be to your daughter's taste either.

FWIW, I generally hate mint flavoured things because they taste like toothpaste. But I am happy to brush my teeth with mint flavoured toothpaste. Your daughter is perfectly normal to me!

I was coming in to say kids toothpaste, when I had whopping cough the minty taste would set me off into a coughing attack so I went with the kids stuff. I think there is an ingredient missing from the kids toothpaste perhaps? (don't take my word for it though)

My dd8 is the same and wont use mint toothpaste. I buy her macleans big teeth wich is for ages 7+ years and has a bubblegum taste. I get it from coles.

Miessence does an anise and a lemon toothpaste, my husband loves the anise one and we haven't tried the lemon yet.

I've also seen a couple of other brands of non mint toothpaste in health food shops and some of the more comprehensive chemists.

My youngest is the same. He is 5 and still uses the Oral B Bubblegum flavoured one. Its no longer sold in coles/woolworths but I have found in the chemists.

He goes to the dentist every 3 months for flouride treatment.

SIL did mention an apple flavoured one from the health food shop as well as Close Up, no longer sold in the major shops but can be found in smaller independent ones.

Try McCleans Protect Mild Mint. It tastes more like bubblegum than mint. My mint hating DD doesn't like it but your mileage may vary. My DD just puts up with mint toothpaste because we've never found a palatable alternative.
