Hey ladies,
So I had my NT scan yesterday at a very reputable clinic on the Gold Coast. As we walked on the tech asked us if we wanted to find out the gender while we were there. I was suprised that they could do this but she said that they are 70% accurate this early on. We decided to have her tell us what she thought (girl!) and she said if she was allowed to say 99% this early she would, that's how certain she was. My question: how much credence would you give to a US tech giving you the gender this early? I'm not going to rush out and buy pink everything, but I don't know wether to take it as just a guess or to start thinking that it will probably be a little pink one |

Ours told us at the 12 week scan too. He also said 70% certain it's a girl. From our 20 week scan it looks very much like a girl or it will be a very disappointed boy lol. At the 20 week scan she got a perfect view up between the babies legs and you could see the labia very clearly. I am due in a few weeks so we will confirm it all then. I did go buy pink after the 20 week scan

I think I would trust that but mentally wait until the 20 week scan. I wouldn't be buying much at that point anyway as there is still a while to go.
Good luck. |

I was told at my 12 week US that it is 70% chance of being a girl also. I have my 20 week scan in another week and a half and am very keen to find out if it is a girl.

One of my cousins had a very closely monitored pregnancy (due to a previous very prem. birth) and was told all the way through it was a girl.
Not only was he not a girl but he also had one of the biggest baby boy penis ever seen... |

We were told boy, and he was a boy, from the 12w scan.
A friend was told boy, but the penis had fallen off by 20w.... and it's most definitely a she! I'd be reasonable confident, but not decorate the nursery, and name her just yet.. |

I wouldn't be confident at all. I have heard pretty much 50/50 right wrong. I know this hasn't been the case in proper studies, but it's much like the 99% effectiveness of the OCP and the number of friends I've had who have become pregnant whilst taking the pill perfectly
I would take it with a grain of salt and wait for the 20 week scan. |

I would take it with a grain of salt. My friend had a "very experienced" sonographer tell her the sex at 12 weeks, and was told the opposite at the morph scan.

I would have thought at 12 weeks the genitals still have a lot of developing to do. Girls can look like boys, boys can look like girls. It's so early. And the odds of picking the right one are pretty good! Can you imagine betting on the Melbourne Cup with those sorts of odds? It's either going to be a girl or a boy.. take your pick!

I sort of wish that they didn't make any inference to gender at 12 weeks. There are as many mistakes as there are correct predictions.
