Hi,

I have requested and been granted from my work place maternity leave starting from COB Friday 8th of February. We were supposed to be made redundant from 1st of March leaving me with 3 weeks of no income before my package... we have since found out that the office will not be closing on the date we were told (without official notice) and we have still not been given any type of official notice. I am beginning to get concerned my savings won't stretch further than the 3 weeks I had anticipated before I get my package and then it is another 3 weeks until I get Paid Parental Leave.

Can I ask my leave date be push back? Can I offer to work part time after this date to keep some kind of cash flow coming in? I am starting to get stressed about money and am not sure what to do. I am looking forward to the end of work so much. My work place stresses me out and all the travel wears me out by the end of the day. I don't want to stay on, but not sure what else to do to make sure I can pay all the bills???

It would depend on your employer - it can't hurt to ask, I have to admit I put mine in as late as I thought I could work as it would be easier to go earlier if something came up. I would also check if you're eligible for any other government payments

Be very careful about requesting part time work though, it may mean that your redundancy is paid out at part time instead of full time. Could you try to get some casual data entry work or something (not easy to get I know)

I'm sure that you will be able to get it pushed back. I did - I originally asked to start leave at 34 weeks, but felt better than I thought and pushed it back to 36.

Ask - they can only say no and you have nothing to lose.

It really depends on your companies policies.

I know I could change the dates of my maternity leave as long as I gave 4 weeks notice.

As you are meant to start leave end of next week, it might be pushing it a bit close to be changing dates.

But it certainly can't hurt to try.

oh, and I agree with a PP - before you offer to do part-time, check on any impact on your payout.

Going part time might also mean your maternity leave is only paid at part time rates as well so check that.
