Just wondering if anyone knows if you can apply to centrelink to get the baby bonus paid in a lump sum instead of the fortnighly installments? We need a people mover but cant get it until we have the baby bonus to put towards it as we cant get a loan as neither my partner and I are working and we have no one to borrow money off, but we also cant really wait until the baby bonus comes through

No, the only way the baby bonus is paid in a lump sum is if the baby is stillborn.

as the pp stated above, is there any reason your partner cant get a job? that would make it easier to get a loan.

Do you have a car you can sell to put towards the people mover?

Nope, it is only in instalments. They did it for just this reason, to stop people spending it on big purchases instead of baby essentials which it is designed for.

I thought it was more to stop irresponsible parents blowing it on pokies, alcohol or drugs?

I can understand why the OP would prefer it in a lump sum as getting a car that safely fits all the family is important.

Op- you might just have to put it all in a savings account, by the time its finished being paid you would have a little extra, plus it would probably be close to tax time so you would have a decent amount for a car.

Best of luck.

ok thanks for the replies. My partners uni course is a bit to full on at the moment for him to work plus I thought you had to be in steady employment for at least 3 months to get a loan, I do work but I am only getting 2hrs one day a week which I hope will increase soon. I will probably only get $1000 for my car to put towards it and we have bout $5000 cash to put towards it but we where hoping to spend $10, 000 on a car guess we will have to just lower our budget.

bluenomi I thought a car is essential to get the baby to Dr appointments etc or am I just meant to leave it at home when we go out cause it won't fit into the car with the rest of us?

Our financial situation changed dramatically just after I fell pregnant and we never expected money to be this tight
