We had planned a driving holiday to Tassie for us and the kids, but we now have a bit of extra time up our sleeves. We're going to spend a few days each in Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney as well as do the Great Ocean Road drive and see the Great Australian Bight.
We still have some free time in our itinerary so I'd love any suggestions about what is worth seeing/visiting outside of the capital cities in NSW, Vic and SA. We've got two little ones who will be 4 and 2 so anything they would enjoy would be great. It will in April/May so getting cooler. I'd love any suggestions for family friendly accommodation too - though we are not campers. I'd be grateful for any input or ideas. |

I'm a veteran of many, many long driving holidays as a kid... but Perth to the Eastern States with a 2yo and a 4 yo is pretty ambitious! We did the trip on the train when I was that age, and it was very hard work for Mum.
Some ideas: - Paddle steamers on the Murray (can still remember those!) - Sovereign Hill in Ballarat - Phillip Island for the penguins - Depending on the route you take, maybe a trip up Kosciusko? - Great Alpine Road - Maybe Mt Buffalo Plateau Enjoy your trip! |

Thanks for those ideas KRT - I didn't have any of them on my list so will do some research.
Yes, DP and I are a little nervous but we've done a few big driving trips already and this is our trial run before planning a 3-4 month driving trip around Qld. We are planning frequent stops and doing the big drives in chunks so hopefully the kids won't get too restless. Thanks again. |
