Icky topic, and I'm going to ask my midwife on Friday, but I thought I'd see what peoples experiences were. Has anyone requested an enema for the early stages of labour?

I have quick ish labours, and the one and only thing that freaks me out is the poo. I had, and hope to have again, water births. So it floats around and needs to be scooped out..... And stinks. I would really like to avoid that this time. I thnk the speed of the labour is why my body didn't naturally get a movement before baby came out. Are the tablets you insert? Any info would be greatly appreciate and relieve my anxiety!

or Fembo maybe...
I've always thought I would, but first time my body 'moved' itself the night before, so all was ok, and second time I had gastro that brought on labour, so I was all cleared out! (sorry TMI!)
I will consider getting one this time, as I'd like to try for a water birth too.

I had 2 water births. I can't remember asking the second time or not for an enema. I think it sounds like a good idea, but I have a vague feeling the midwives wont recommend it for some reason.

For my first labor, most of my laboring I just wanted to get rid of the discomfort of a full bowel - which was tricky due to the pressure of the babies head in the canal. When eventually I did pass motion in the bath, the midwife efficiently scooped it out. I was able to get on with the rest of the labor much easier afterwards.

Second labor, I didn't have the same discomfort. I still passed a motion again in the bath. Again the midwife scooped it out. Honestly it's just an icky part of their job. It didn't phase me really. I did apologise for the ickiness of it afterwards for manners purposes. But a lot of childbirth is icky. All the blood, sac, placenta aren't glorious either. I wouldn't stress about it.

But by all means ask your midwife.

At my ante natal class someone asked about this. They were told it wouldn't be done at this particular hospital.

This.
Both times for the 3-4 days before my body seemed to "prepare".
