HI I have just found out I am pregnant with our second long awaited bub!

So now the hard decision of where to birth! I had our DD at SJOG Murdoch 6yrs ago and while had a good experience I ended with an emergency c-section. I am unsure if I want to return there as I have heard the OB fees have gone up a huge amount since then.

So we now live not far from Armadale Hospital and so I am after feedback good and bad on this hospital please. We have PHI so am unsure whether public or private would be better? I would probably have another C-section so after experiences on this too please.

This is an IVF baby so do Armadale (either side) take IVF patients does anybody know?

If you need to please PM me with your thoughts and recent experiences! Would also be interested in which doctor you used too!

I had DD at Armadale as a public patient a little under 2 years ago. I was extremely happy with my entire experience.

I did end up with an emergency c-section but I can not fault the midwives or doctors throughout my pregnancy, labour and post recovery.

Their maternity ward was refurbished around 10 years ago and all the rooms are lovely. There is max of 2 in each room and they try to put c-section patients in a private room on their own (I had my own room).

The ONLY thing that would put me off in the slightest is that there has been a huge population boom in the area the last few years (there was an article in the paper when I was there with DD about their baby boom), so I can't be sure if their staffing levels have kept up with the new demand or not. Perhaps someone on here has some more recent experience?

I am due with #2 in July and will be booking in there in a few weeks. For public patients they do shared care where you see a midwife and ob/GP on alternate visits. I'm not sure how they work it for private patients.

Hi, I had DD there last August as a public patient. The only thing I can fault is one midwife kept sending me home saying I wasn't in labour and when I demanded she check I was almost 8 cm dilated. She was extremely apologetic though. Otter than that all other midwives involved were amazing. Anything I wanted or needed they helped with. I had a very long labour and pushing time was at 3 hours when they talked about giving me a C/S but thankfully I gave it my all and a couple pushes later she was born.

The after care was fantastic. And I can't say enough just how helpful the midwives were as she was my first baby. They helped with everything. I'd have another at this hospital I'm a heartbeat.

ETA: I Also had my own room the whole stay which was 3 nights.

Thee is no private side (Galliers) any more at Armadale.. the hospital is purely public.

The Galliers wing is now the consulting rooms for the specialists, xray and pathology.

The section that was private is now public and the birth suites are no longer used. They do however still operate the maternity section there and I believe you can come in with a private OB. Maternity at Armadale has been extremely busy over the last year.

Thanks for all the replies! It's a little confusing! I am going to go on a tour on Saturday to have a look and ask some questions and I have an appt with a GP/OB who is at my local surgery who delivers there so looks like it is set I am going there!

Hmm not really sure yet but probably another c-section if that is best option for me and baby...I went on a tour of the Maud Bella ward today and it was really nice and everything happens over that side as a PP said and then it is just whether you got to post natal ward in public if public or over to Canning Ward if Private. I think I will go to Armadale as a private patient as I like the idea of choosing my own GP/OB instead of just a different one each time. It was really nice to have a look around though!
