Hi all, does anyone know what happens when a teen enters employment (a retail traineeship), full time? She has possibly got a retail traineeship via a disability employment provider, and I am trying to find out what will happen with ftb? she will apparently earn 330ish a week.

She may be eligible for Youth Allowance.

My 17yr old DD has just gone back onto YA and she now has to notify her income on a fortnightly basis.

From memory she can earn $440/fn before it is affected.

If she has left school, you need to notify Centrelink. Your FTB will stop for her.

fiveaus she is still enrolled in school but has been unable to attend for the last 12 months. She has a permanent disability.

And TZ thank you that gives me some better idea of what will happen except that apparently as of 1 Jan last year, centrelink prefer children aged 16-19 living at home to stay on ftb rather than switch to YA - which is the part I still don't really understand.

I swapped my DD over as she is now going to Uni. Because of this she is now eligble for Scholarship start up payments of $1025 every semester so for us that is a lot more beneficial to being paid FTB.

The payment I receieve is the same except it is now paid at FTB and YA.

Not that this will affect your DD but it is interesting to know considering the advise is for parents to continue receiving FTB thereby losing out on the extra payment.

If she starts a retail traineeship, she won't be enrolled at school any longer.
