I was going to be calling Allianz as I had business insurance with them for a time and they were extremely efficient to deal with.
We are currently with GIO but I have always been apprehensive due to their rather large booklet of terms of conditions, and I feel if we ever had to make a claim I think they've given themselves lots of loopholes and it would be hard to claim. DH is 43 and I am 37. We haven't had to (touch wood) claim on any kind of insurance to date. We are moving house on Friday and I have been thinking hard about Allianz, but before I call them I'd love recommendations. Not so much the price, but moreso that they will actually pay out; so perhaps positive payout experiences. I'll be moving both cars and our home and contents to whoever I choose to insure with. We are moving to a house that if there was a bushfire, we are probably in the worst, most likely to impact, position. So it needs to be a policy that definitely covers bushfire. We also have a large number of gum trees and at a high mountain point, so if there were major winds and storms trees could also be an impact. So we need to have storm damage as well. Obviously flood won't be an issue. Love your recommendations. I'll be making a call before the day's end! TIA This post has been edited by Katakacpk: 29/01/2013, 09:05 AM |

We're with AAMI. They took us on when we bought a house in Darwin and settlement fell when Darwin was on cyclone watch - no-one else would even consider it. We now have our building, contents and vehicle insurance with them.
I haven't actually made a claim because the repairs that I discussed with them turned out to be less than our excess, but they were easy to deal with. |

Sorry can't help with the payout/claim feedback - other than a windscreen - but I am a fan of AAMI's policy pricing and customer service. Their premiums came in well under the top few competitors, and almost half of RAC's. Have also been very impressed with their customer service to date.

AAMI's a funny one. I think their customers like them but I've heard of many repairers that won't deal with them because they are so difficult on that side. Sorry don't know more detail about what that involved.

TIA We are with AAMI and have been very happy, and have had a few claims over the last few years. But more importantly, to live in a house with a gum tree close enough to fool i believe is suicidal. Gum trees drop branches, simple. Having grown up in the country, with a father like mine, there is no way I would live near a gum tree, that close. I value my life too much |

I like Allianz. Great premiums, solid coverage (accidental damage, etc) and a claims team who has an attitude of accepting liability rather than declining.
They also have bushfire and flood options - unfortunately there is a freeze / embargo on having these covers at the moment. |

I can recommend AAMI. I have had 6 different car policies, 1 home & contents and 2 contents policies with them at various times. When I crashed my car in 2011 it was resolved quickly HOWEVER the car was a writeoff so there was no repair etc to organise, not sure how they go on that.
It did take about 5-6 weeks from crash to payout though. I was just researching contents insurance the other day to see if I could find anyone who would give me a better price than AAMI. They were all more expensive. A lot more expensive. I never have to wait on hold for AAMI either and they have always been lovely and helpful. I've never claimed but I was originally with AAMI for car insurance when I was younger (I did a under 25 course and got cheaper/discount premium) and had contents with them when we moved out I moved to CGU based on price later, and added home building and contents. The premiums kept going up especially for my car (I was told we have had a lot of claims for your type of car - umm yeah no I don't think so) even though my risk was going down, they where also useless with a potential claim I was trying to make. I ended up doing the ring around and went back to AAMI because of price for the car (really a much of a muchness on product). They took a young driver to be under 24 whereas all other companies at the time where under 25 this was sending up both mine and my DH's insurance as I was a listed driver. The house policy was not only cheaper but better product. (I got unlimited build plus doubled our contents for a few dollars cheaper a month. )
All have just gone through renewal and the house and building went down (no idea why perhaps because I have now had it for 3 years without a claim?) and the car insurances went slightly up. I rang them and the girl did a fiddle with the figures so that whilst the 2 car policies have gone up it is basciall by the amount that the house went down so clearly offset. I know people who have had to use AAMI for their car and claim and they have been good. |
