DS1 was born in the public system and I never saw the same midwife twice, let alone form any sort of relationship with them sufficient to buy them a present.
DS2 was born at home under the care of a private midwife. Obviously I got to know her very well from many long antenatal visits and extended post natal care. I bought her a lovely tote bag with a swirling screenprint of a pregnant woman and since she has many causes that she cares for and is actively involved in, also donated to one of those. |

I have a friend who was a midwife - she always had a great stash of chocolate and wine!
Now she is working in a community health role working with 'at risk' young mothers.... and we have to buy our own booze and chockies! |

I got the midwife who delivered DD a cup & saucer with small pack of tea, I thought she would be probably drinking it in those wee hours she sits delivering babies. She spent so much time with me and encouraging my Vbac I wanted to give her a little something to say thank you. I also left one of the bunches of flowers I was given in hospital with them to enjoy, I had so many and taking them all home was hard.

I gave the hospital midwives a massive box of chocolates to share and a card.
My private midwife I got this time a subscription to an alternative type mag that she saw at my house and was interested in. Previous time I got her an oxfam card that was a donation to midwifery in a poor country. |

Can't quite recall, but I think the midwife who looked after me through the pregnancy, the lactation consultant, and the midwife at delivery (who was lovely) got a card with DD's photo (like they'd care!) and a small pack of lindt.
The maternity ward got most of the flowers that we were given, plus a box of chocolates to share. The evil midwife who was on shift overnight should have got a poo bomb... but didn't 2nd time around the midwife got to keep the baby This post has been edited by CallMeProtart: 29/01/2013, 09:29 AM |

Packet of timtams from me! I had figured the midwives could use something to keep them going except, the labour went so quickly that they didn't end up getting them until AFTER the baby was born!
I had the most wonderful midwife for the delivery, I wished I had more than just a packet of timtams to give! |
