(Mods, if this is in the wrong spot, please move)

Although I am like a woman posessed with the whole ttc thing, I am also very good at second guessing myself so recently got mixed up with when AF was due. (Was more absorbed with the 2ww and how many days past O I was). So I thought AF was due last week and was high fiving DH.... Only to find that it was THIS week that AF was due.

I had resigned myself to not being pregnant as I had also had 'those feelings' which I get before AF. Yesterday morning there was a bit of blood (apoloies if TMI) so thought that this month is out and when at the shops bought some beer.

Hd one beer over lunch and as the kids were having their nap and there happened to be a helium balloon in the room from one of DD's parties myself and DH did the whole helium high pitched voice thing (because we have the humour of a 10 year old).

Since then AF hasn't actually come yet - just a bit of brown spotting and then nothing.....

Now I am not paranoid about the beer but could I have harmed the baby (if there is one) with the helium? I have been looking online and opinions vary from 'very' dangerous to 'just don't' however it all seems to be in relation to a pregnancy much, much farther along.

I may very well get AF sometime today or tomorrow however if I don't and I am actually lucky enough to be pregnant have I just harmed the baby? Has anyone else had any experience of this?

Thanks in advance.

UPDATE:

spoke with Nurse on Call, who then put me through to the Poison line, who then put me through to a hospital department which advises on such things in pregnancy and all is good. Both beer and helium wouldn't have affected the baby as you have 17 days past fertilisation before anything can harm the development of the baby (though obviously there could be substances which could terminate it). Even past that date he said that I haven't harmed it. Won't be doing it again though AND by the time I got off the phone I think AF has arrived but at least we know!

I wouldn't think you've done any harm, but it not sure sucking on helium is advisable any time, is it?

If you're pregnant now, the embryo is self sustaining - you don't share blood for a few weeks yet.

you'll be fine - if you inhale too much pure helium then you are not breathing in oxygen and so you are starving yourself of oxygen. If you only did one balloon then you're not at risk of asphyxiation. It won't have any risk to you or the pregnancy. And one beer isn't an issue at this early stage - congrats and enjoy your pregnancy!

There's absolutely no need to worry - it's an unreactive chemical. Probably the safest thing you could inhale apart from Oxygen or Nitrogen. Relax!

Sucking on helium is a huge no no. Very, very bad idea. It puts people in hospital and can cause brain damage since it can stop your brain getting oxygen. So don't do it at anytime! (I may sound OTT but I was trained in helium use and have seen sooo many things go wrong with it)

Tbh, this was the first time I had had a helium balloon in the house so only did it as I had never tried it before. Wn't be doing it again. With your training in helium do you think I could have harmed the potential baby in any way?

Well my mum not only got roaring drunk the night before she found out (they had an appt with adoption agencies or something like that booked for the following week) but was sucking on ballons all night. Now whilst some may say I am not fine, I happen to think that I am perfectly normal original.gif
