DS has just turned 1 and in the last few weeks his reflux has flared up and his medication no longer seems to be working. He is on Nexium, 10mg per day, taken at night. He has lots of food allergies which cause delayed gastro reactions and eczema, however since getting them under control (which wasn't until he was 9 months old) and then going back on medication for reflux at 10 months, he was a completely different baby. So much happier, sleeping improved immensely, started gaining weight, it was such a relief. To have his reflux symptoms return so severely has left me feeling completely desperate.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or experiences with reflux medications no longer working? We are back to hours of crying at night and after a year of so little sleep I just don't think I can cope much longer. I feel so helpless that he is in so much pain and so miserable and I don't know how to help him. I am also worried he will lose weight again as he is refusing to eat much solids due to the pain. I just don't know what to do.

Sorry to hear your little man is having so much trouble. Have you checked out the RISA site and forums? There is a heap of information and the forums are very supportive.

I'm not sure if you've tried it but sometimes a small dose of mylanta used to help with my DD. Not sure if that would be ok but worth checking with your gp. Also might be worth seeing a gastro pead if you havent already.

I know what its like withe reflux flares and no sleep. It is so hard, so please take care of yourself and get rest when you can.

I found DDs reflux got so much worse with teething. Is he teething. I used to give a dose of nurofen for a few nights to break the cycle. DD was on losec until she was 3 and the nights were hit and miss depending on so many factors We also used to give her dinner at 4pm and give her a light snack before bed or else she would have a bad night on a full stomach.
It was a tough time so I know what you are going through. DD did grow out of it eventually and is now an excellent sleeper and hardly ever wakes. It will turn.
