Hi All,

Very new to this. Currently pregnant with our first, due in August. I have commenced research into prams and have to say I'm utterly confused!

Would appreciate experienced Mum's words of wisdom.

We need a pram that will be suitable for tall parents (both over 6ft), assuming a tall baby, off-road (walking down bush tracks) and as compact as possible as whilst we're upgrading to a Territory we still need to fit in two golden retrievers!

Looking to use from newborn stage. Any advice people can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Mountain buggy. I had the urban which was awesome for off road and the handle is adjustable. The swift is more compact but havent used it myself so unsure if the handle is adjustable on (but i'd say it would be!)

Baby Jogger City Elite or Summit - excellent for tall parents and tall children (better head clearance than Mountain Buggy for the child) and huge sun shade. The wheels also pop off so the pram can fit behind the driver's seat (we have one big golden retriever so put the pram in the backseat even though we have a Prado, gives the doggie more room which you would definitely need with two! original.gif).

Baby Jogger has a great adjustable bar that is designed for tall and short parents! We just bought the new model mini GT and its great for swapping between the 2 of us (spent ages testing them in store). Whilst the pram itself is designed from newborn, we also bought the bassinet that fits onto it to use at the start.

We have the Baby Jogger City Elite, I'm 5'7 and DH a bit taller. Both our boys were long babies and are tall for their ages. Our pram is 4 years old so they may have changed a bit. It's not that compact for storage but folds easily and we love it - it goes anywhere and is very well made.

Another vote for the baby jogger city elite- my husband is over 6 foot tall and he has no problems pushing it and it fits easily in the back of our Forester

I am 6ft 1 and DH is 6ft 4. We have the strider plus and it is great for our height. It is a big, bulky pram though but has the second seat option which will be perfect when bub 2 arrives. Lighter strollers are a pian. Even the Maclaren ones which are meant to be better for tall people are simply too short.

You can also buy a product called a pram handle extender online. I have not tried them so can't say if it is worth it.

My other tip is to try and find a baby bath that can lay across the top of your laundry tub. Perfect height for tall parents. Baby change table units are also far too low. We bought a change table that fits across the top of the cot which is a much better height.

MB Swift or Urban
BJ City Mini GT (the most compact of all these - would be my pick) or the bigger bulkier BJ Elite/Summit.
Steer clear of the Strider as it won't handle the rough terrain you describe.
Happy shopping!

We took our Mountain Buggy bushwalking plenty of times, and the adjustable handle was fantastic for going from tall to short (handy for the second child when the older sibling wants to help). Ours was one of the original NZ made ones though - don't know what they're like now.
