In the past, I have found it very easy to fall pregnant while not breastfeeding. However when I was breastfeeding DS I had no luck (AF returned at 8.5 months, but I didn't fall pg until I stopped bfing at 13 months). I wasn't using OPKs or charting at the time, so I can't be sure what was happening, but I do wonder whether perhaps I wasn't Oing at all and thats why it didn't work (it could have also been luck of the draw, I guess).

I was wondering if anyone knows for sure whether they ovulated during breastfeeding? Did you have any anovulatory cycles?

I also remember reading somewhere that if your cycle was a certain length it was unlikely you ovulated. My cycles started out quite long (the first one was 42 days) but they got shorter each month.

I like cats, but I couldn't eat a whole one.
Yes. Once my period returned (13 weeks and 6.5 months) I ovulated.

Yes. I have very clear ovulation signs (and know my cycle well due to 2+ years of TTC) - definitely ovulated while BF.

Yes as soon as my period returned at 7 months I ovulated each cycle (didn't ovulate pre pregnancy due to PCOS so I was well aware it was happening). I fell pregnant whilst still bf 12 months after my child was born.

I definitely ovulated while breastfeeding as I fell pregnant with my next child. Some people don't though or don't for a while which is meant to help with natural spacing. It is a complicated system with no hard and fast rules.

Yes.

I got pregnant three times while BF my eldest, one resulted in my second DS and I have ovulated while BF him (though we are actively avoiding pregnancy now!)

I'm pretty sure I was ovulating but wasn't ttcing so don't know for sure. But my cycles were all over the place so I suspect if I was trying to get pregnant it would have been tricky.

Hi ladies - thanks for your responses! Its always nice to log into EB and see one of your topics as one of the most recently discussed! DD is now almost 10 months and AF is still yet to arrive, although I have plenty of discharge that I would normally associate with either O or pg (so much so I have briefly pondered using a HPT to check, but can't convince myself to do it since I think the chances are so remote!!)

I guess another thing that could have been happening while I was breastfeeding DS is I could have had a short luteal phase, which is apparently quite common while breastfeeding.
