Hello!
My little on just turned 4 months, and I have started her on solids. So far it is going great, she has loved everything we have given her, and she eats alot as well! I was just wondering if anyone else is starting this 'early', and what kind of foods you have given your little one. I lived in a different country when my first one was little, so the foods that are normal there, might be different, so it would be interesting to hear other suggestions. So far she has had pureed prunes, apricots and apple, as well as potato and porridge. I am a stay at home mum, so fortunately I have loads of time to make my own food for her. |

Hi, my little girl is 5 months and we have been doing solids for a week now. So far she has had rice cereal, puréed apple and sweet potato, and loved them all. We are trying to take it slowly and just introduce something new every 3 days or so. In a couple of days I'm going to try her with some puréed pears, then perhaps pumpkin. I haven't tried it but I've read that avocado is a good one to try too. It's such fun, isn't it!

With my DS I started around 4.5months as he was hungry a lot (he was combination fed due to issues with BF). He started with Rice cereal, but never liked it. I then went to vegies such as pumpkin, carrot, sweet potato etc. Then onto Apple, pear etc. I then introcued things like pureed rice and potatoes into his vegies. He never liked green things much, but at 3.5 have finally decided he likes Avocado and Broccoli (WOOHOO!).
DD has not started solids yet (she is 5.5months and BF), but I am hoping to try her first vegie (butternut pumpkin) tonight. I have been letting her use baby carrots as teething "rusks" and she loves them. I think I will skip rice cereal this time, as it was a waste of money. I would rather make my own food out of vegies and cereals I already have. As DS is Gluten intolerant DD won't get any gluten based cereals for the moment. |

belinda18: I know, it is very exciting;) It is a milestone, and seeing her struggling with trying to learn how to process it is a lot of fun, but seeing how she starts chomping it down as soon as she "remembers" is awesome! Thanks for the tips, I will surely try the avocado and sweet potato as well!
vitaechel: Those are great tips, thank you! I didn't know you could use baby carrots as rusks, maybe I'll give that a go? Surely they are better than the ones you buy! I find making my own food so easy, I takes me less than half an hour to make several different types that lasts for days.. I made my own food for my first little girl as well, but I have never had a full time job whilst having children either so have had plenty of time Pureed prunes has really helped my little ones constipation, she has been on formula since only a few weeks old, and they have all made her constipated, even if I have tried every single one, but now, since having the prunes, she goes magically! Thanks, lucky 2, I am new here, so there is still alot to learn! |
