My two children have weird names, I'm happy to admit.
I often have strangers come up to me with them (because they are just so cute and beautiful), and often get asked what their names are. When I tell them, I get the usual responses: "Oh." "Where did you get that name from?" "That'll be hard to spell." "What culture is that from/is that from your husband's culture" etc. I take the rough with the smooth; I chose the names, after all. However, the funniest one was in the supermarket this week, when a client of my partner saw my baby for the first time. When my partner revealed his name, his response was, "No, come on, what did you really call him?" We laughed so much that the guy was sure the name was a joke. Once he realised that it wasn't, and then asked my daughter's name, he just nodded, too scared to react. Now I wish I'd told him something really outrageous. So - what funny reactions have you had when revealing your childrens' names? |

So what are the names?!
I cant remember the exact wording, but a lady in the supermarket said that "I guess someone has to use the odd ones" and its not even that odd! His name is Reuben. So far no comments about DD (Pippa) |

LOL, I once had a "friend" say to me: "You can tell you were 16 when you named her!"
Her name is Ruby. |

It's not a reaction to his name, but the day bub was born, my MIL gave different spellings of bub's name to different family members. i didn't even know that "Dillon" was an alternate way to spell Dylan until then, Dillon just looks weird.

"But he'll be called Farty at school!" said my mother in horror when I told her DS would be Arthur.

Ruby is a gorgeous name EB. I'm far from 16 and I think it's beautiful.

People ask why we chose Freya, was there any special meaning?
As a joke I have started saying it was due to our scandinavian heritage. I am Irish, DH is Chinese. |

- Huh? Are you joking? - What? Umm... Why? - Err... Bit affected by the drugs were you? - What do you think he will want to call himself when he is older? And the classic: - Oh. Right. Well... Congratulations. |

'Well, I suppose I will get used to it' from my beloved elderly cousin when we told her DS2's name.
We also had a childcare worker who persisted in spelling his name Gaspar and pronouncing it like that. |
