Our vacuum cleaner has just died after almost 10 years (Electrolux - cost about $200). Hubby wants to buy a Dyson but I have no idea if it is worth it. (I do 90% of the vacuuming anyway).

Has anyone got any recommendations? Or things we should look for?

Thanks Lisa

We bought a low-end commercial called 'Junior' and it is SO good!! I actually bought it for a shop I had, and turned into our main vac. And it wasn't overly expensive either.

I just love this vacuum cleaner - sure, the dust container isn't huge, and it does run out of battery (occasionally). But I love the convenience - I don't have to commit to pulling the vacuum out of the cupboard, plugging it in, making sure it doesn't run into the walls, moving the plug down the hallway.

Zoom, zoom and its done!

I'd go a Miele.

I blew my Dyson up & for the $$ there's plenty others that do a great job.

I really wanted a Dyson but when DH and I went to buy one the store man actually talked up the Miele.

So we got a Miele for half the price of a Dyson and it works heaps better than my BIL's Dyson that I had been using.

Picks up my hair first roll over where the Dyson just made it clump into a ball an not actually pick it up.

I borrowed my mums Dyson dc24 after our cheapie broke down recently and it was fantastic. We went and bought one in the sales over Xmas.

The downfall is the $$ and the bin does need frequent emptying (which you get used to quickly) but the suction is so good and it cleans so well. The bigger vacuums are bulky and too heavy for me, this one is so easy to use. An upright vacuum is much easier to use IMO too.

Eta spelling
