Hi,
I am a little confused and was hoping someone might be able to help me. I am 37 and live in Brisbane and am 9wks pregnant with fraternal twins. I was given a blood test form and NT referral and have booked in with Queensland Ultrasound for Women but was told that I dont need to have the blood test prior to coming in for my NT scan as the receptionist told me one of the reasons not to have the bloods done was because I was having twins and that it was hard to know which baby the results were being measured against etc ( I think they are also combined results somehow... but not too sure). When I was living interstate, I had a blood test with my last NT scan, but this was for a single pregnancy and I was 36. The results were fine, but came back with a low PAPP-A so they advised a growth scan at 20 weeks- or something like that. Sadly I miscarried at around 15 wks and this is now our first pregnancy since that happened. I have heard that Frank Carmody is also good, so I was wondering of you have used either QUFW or Frank Carmody for your NT scan, and also if you had a blood test for twins. Thank you, |

I don't think the blood results are accurate because of twins. They can't identify which twin the results pertain to re blood tests and I think with twins, the test gives elevated levels anyway.

I didn't have the blood test this time because I'm having twins. The scan took ages because one of the twins wasn't cooperating. I think we were there for nearly 4 hours!

No blood test due to twins. Scan will take around two hours - one hour per twin.
I recommend joining your local AMBA - there one ones on North side, South side and Westside. PM me and I can pass on the contact details. Go to a Expectant Parent's Night, they are invaluable. You will also have access to super cheap pump and pillow hire. I'll Pm you on Dr Carmody. Best wishes. |

Yep - OP my aunty had twins but before she knew she was having twins she had the blood test come back. It came back with a strange reading and put her in the high risk category. Of course, she was worried as we all were. But the scan showed two happy little babies in there. So yes, the blood test is not accurate to test twins because you've got twice as many babies in there muddling up the results for you.
