DS woke up 30 mins ago, he woke up with a temp of 38.7, a sore throat, coughing and saying he was not feeling well enough to walk, since having a slightly cool bath his temp is almost normal, he walked into the kitchen but when he was looking down at the bottom of the fridge he said ow and complained of his neck hurting.

I will be taking him to the GP at 9am when they open but that is 1 1/2 hours away so I am wondering if one symptom on it's own is enough to warrant a trip to emergency, he has not had any vomiting, a obvious rash, high fever, sensitivity to light, or vomiting.

With those symptoms I would just be going to emergency.

Glad to hear that.

I would have been off to the ED. I went seriously downhill over a few hours when I had meningococcal septicema. Started day with minor sore throat....ended up spending days in hospital.

My son had a sudden 40 degree fever. Complained of headache/neck ache and sensitivity to light.

I just called the Dr and turned up at their offices (I love my Dr as they do squeeze in emerg appts for potential bad things). Thankfully all ended up being OK.

The only symptom DS had with meningitis was screaming every time I moved him - as though he had a migraine, at 4 weeks of age. Instinct told me something was not right.

I took him straight to the GP who sent us straight to hospital, who had us in a bed and seen by a doctor within an hr of seeing the GP.

Hope your little one is ok, keep us updated.
