Our corner bedroom (one we want to get set up for baby) stinks and has done since before xmas. We are pulling our hair out trying to fix it but nothing works.
Smelly bedroom is the back corner room, has bedrooms on either side & both of those are fine. - We replaced old carpet in all 3 rooms approx 3mths ago, smelly room started smelling within a week - Husband & brother smelt urine, so we blamed the cat (not normal for him but we had just moved and got a dog so figured he may have been a little stressed). Carpet in corner felt damp. -Pulled up carpet & underlay -smell still the same - Had brain wave that the water outside the room wasnt draining away so had back yard dug up to lower the level to below the line in the brick that has the water proof membrane -cleared gutters (was blocked in that corner) -Got up in ceiling to check no water damage -none - Got plumber out to check for leaking pipes in concrete floor - none - Got bucket load of natures mircle for hard surfaces & used the lot on the concrete floor -smell hardly noticable at night when cooler and def gets worse during the day -had a box of bi carb soda in there- no difference - cleaned room/floor with white vineger - no difference -We have just had 2days of heavy rain (SE QLD) and no water / damp showing- and the rain is coming down directly onto that wall. Any ideas??? It is driving us crazy, even had the carpet people out to see what they think and they said "could be cat urine" seal the floor. We are happy to do that but is there anything else we can try? Should say that we cant really pinpoint the source or a "worse" area it is just when you open the door and walk in you notice a bad smell. Hubby did say he could smell it up in the roof over that room. I dont think it could be a dead animal as it isnt a gagging type smell and I would think that it should of broken down by now as we noticed it early Dec when getting it ready for guest's so over 6weeks and we have had warm weather. We have replacement carpet on hold. They are being great and holding the carpet for us but really want to get it sorted. Any advice or ideas most welcome-please save our sanity Thanks |

Could someone check your roof for leaks which could be coming in under the tiles, corrugated iron or what-ever and running down the wall of the bedroom? Have you taken the curtains down and washed them also?

Plumber checked the roof and said that looked all ok.
No Curtains but do have a roman block out blind - will pull that down and give it a srub. Didnt think of the blind. We also got a blacklight to check for urine and nothing but a tiny few drops- which we got with natures mircle stuff. To me (very preg senstive nose) it smells more dusty/dirt than urine. The wardrobe smells normal. |

Are there air vents in the walls - is something in the vent or next to the vent on the outside of the house?

My bet is a rodent in the wall cavity. That stinks and you cánt find them to clear it out without replastering the room.

No vents in wall.
I am starting to lean towards something in the wall, as unable to "find" anything else. However we do have possums in the area and there was a small hole in the eve (no idea how to spell that) so could be that or something in the wall. How long for something in the wall to disappear? and anything we can do without gutting the room? |

I bought a roman blind from Spotlight that has a really distinctive smell, especially when the room has been shut up all day. I tried everything to get rid of it but nothing has worked.
