DH and I are keen to start trying for #3 (in fact we are already having unprotected sex).

My concerns are that I am still breastfeeding our 4 month old baby and haven't had a period yet.

Is there any chance that I can fall pregnant Before getting AF back?

Since I have PCOS - ovulation tests don't work for me

When have others got AF back while breastfeeding? If I substituted 2 or 2 feeds with formula so that I am not exclusively breastfeeding would that up my chances of AF returning sooner?

I am in unfamiliar territory since with my #1 DS I got AF back within 8 weeks of birth even with exclusively breastfeeding.

I fell pregnant with my 2nd son while still breastfeeding the first. What I thought was my first period was infact implantation bleeding.

I fell pregnant with # 4 whilst feeding #3, had been having periods again for about 5 months.

I am still breastfeeding number 6, and am pregnant again. This time it took about 12 months to conceive. I think my advancing years played a part in it though.

Yes, you can get pregnant when exclusively breastfeeding. But it certainly isn't a given.

Four months is not very old, I would keep trying before changing anything.

My fertility returned once DD started sleeping through at 11 months.

You can in that you ovulate before your first period, but only the once, you do not ovulate every month and just not get a period.

So those that get pregnant before their periods had returned, if they hadn't gotten pregnant that first ovulation would have gotten their first period instead.

For me my cylcle didn't return until DD was 16 months and ony after I had weaned her at 15m. We weaned so that we could TTC.

Yes you can definitely fall pregnant while breastfeeding and before AF returns. As PP has said, ovulation occurs before AF so it is possible to fall pregnant without having had a period. For me AF returned within 8 weeks after both my boys and I was exclusively BF. I fell pregnant with #2 when #1 was 11 months old (we weren't trying though, we had a whoopsie) and I was still BF then.

But as another PP said, I wouldn't be messing with the feeding of your little one just to hurry up conception. 4 months is still very young and they need your BM more.
