Not sure where to post this, either in this forum or the TTC one, as I'm not sure where I belong just yet! I have just taken a FR pregnancy test and there is a very faint second line... which is wonderful news in itself but I feel so worried because I am currently taking antibiotics for a chest infection. I did ask the doctor before I started taking them whether they were save when we were TTC, and he said yes, but now that I may actually be pregnant I'm worried all over again.

I will call the doctor soon to find out whether I should stop the course or not, and to get some further advice, but I guess I'm just putting it out there to allay my fears that I could have done any damage in this early period by taking the antibiotics.

If the doctor said they were fione whilst ttc chances are they will be fine whilst pregnant but check with your dr anyway. My OB had me on prophylactic antibiotics through out most of my last pregnancy and my baby was fine. The doctor will probably weigh up the benefits of you using antibiotics as the chest infection would probably pose more health concerns for mum and bub than the antibiotics. Don't stress

If it makes you feel better I had to take a course of fairly strong antibiotics whilst Pregnant for a sinus infection, DS is just fine and I'm sure your bub will be too:-)
I have a friend who's a Pharmacist & currently 30 weeks preg, she's taking antibiotics for a chest infection :-)

There are antibiotics safe to take in pregnancy. I had a course of them when I was about 17 weeks and I checked with the doctor and the pharmacy and they confirmed they were in the safe class.
If you are unsure you can look it up with Mothersafe or something like that I think and they can confirm.
I think one of the big ones that isn't safe is Amoxil

Thanks everyone for your replies. It makes me feel a little less stressed! I did check with the pharmacist too, when I picked up the script, and apparently they're Category B antibiotics. She said they were generally (although not categorically!) safe during pregnancy...

Koobie83 - amoxil is safe. Very few aren't, but best to check with your Dr OP.

Amoxil, aka Amoxicillin is very commonly prescribed for pregnant and breastfeeding women for various infections. I have had them while pregnant and when breastfeeding.

Perhaps take some inner health plus or similar to counteract the antibiotics killing off the good bacteria too. You can be more prone to thrush when taking antibiotics.

Ive had to take antibiotics in all 3 pregnancies. Doc said it was safe.
