For all those that buy their fabric from the US I've just been informed that international flat rate envelopes are rising from $16.95 to $23.95! This applies from 27 January 2013 and I'm sure most shops will be passing this on. Looking back on past orders it was only around $14 at the end of 2011.
Maybe this is a good thing for my fabric addiction because it will stop me buying so much. I used to justify the postage with the savings I made on US priced fabrics and the savings codes on top of that but I'm not sure I'll be able to do that anymore. |

nah I still can - I just bought some anna maria horner loulouthi, $8 from US $24 from Aus, I am pretty sure most places fit 10yards into a flat rate envolope so on the new rate you are looking at 2.40 per yard for postage - still half the price of buying in australia,

It really doesn't take much for me to self-justify fabric purchases |

It also depends on who they post through. USPS is going up, but at this stage UPS isn't.
ETA - Argh! Just checked HT and they use USPS and the price has increased already. This post has been edited by ~strawberry~: 26/01/2013, 02:41 PM |

It's a massive rise. In 2009 it was only $11.95., so it's eventually doubled in 4 years.

It has been a massive rise over the last few years, but with there must be incredible numbers of parcels exiting the USA on a daily basis. Just think of Amazon, let alone the clothing companies and of course, all of us fabric tragics. I can completely understand why they have had to raise prices. As 3Keiki said, it is still much cheaper than buying fabric here in Australia (although I managed to do a fair amount of that yesterday too
3Keiki, you need to check out Addicted to Fabric when you are next in Canberra. The usual price ranges but I rarely walk out of there empty handed and the staff are lovely. I spent far too much on one fabric in particular yesterday but it saved me spending on other fabrics to 'fill' an envelope from the USA. Plus I picked up an out of print and hard to find Kokka Echino fabric so I was a happy customer. This post has been edited by Puggle: 26/01/2013, 03:28 PM |
