|
Hi folks, we are finally going to join the 21st century and get a dishwasher. We were looking at a reasonably priced one recommended by Choice magazine, but this model lacks a child safety lock. Do you think this is an important feature for a house with a toddler? Thanks

I've never encountered a safety issue with our dishwasher(s) not having child locks, but it sure is frustrating when I open up the dishwasher and the dishes are still dirty because little-Mr-button-pusher has stopped it mid-cycle and I didnt notice.

My dishwasher has a child safety lock thank goodness. My 14 month old loves to play with the buttons and open the machine all the time. Without it, the dishwasher would be turned on and off repeatedly throughout the day.

Nice to have not essential. My toddler has phases that he will fiddle with it but gets the idea pretty quickly that mummy isn't happy.
The worst that can happen is that you have to start the cycle again. It's usually not much of a hassle with a dishwasher but can be a PITA with a front loading washing machine. Good luck. |

I use mine to stop DH leaning against the butons when he makes toast or a cuppa and turning it off (if it's running).
Our child lock ONLY works when the dishwasher is on it's cycle (which generally we do overnight). To stop them turning it on at other times I turn it off at the switch. |

My older 2 children were never interested in the dishwasher. My youngest is a fiend and I am constantly having the cycle interrupted.
Our child lock only prevents the door from being opened so he can't play with the caustic dish washing detergent mid cycle. It's just a phase and I know he will grow out of it. |

DD loves to press the buttons and we have a child lock one. Including the washing machine
 You could run the dishwasher at night. We usually do that. |

Mine doesn't have a child lock, but he only had to get in trouble once to stop playing with the buttons. Like other PP's, I generally run it at night, if only because that is when power is cheaper.
