Hi everyone, I'm new to forums but feel like I need some advice and support from someone other than my husband.I'm 29 and have been TTC for almost 2 years now. Finally convinced hubby to come and see the dr about it to see if there was a problem. He has a (early) teen daughter from a previous marriage and I have never had a pregnancy.The dr gave me blood tests to see whether I am O-ing as I had previously had a cyst on one ovary. Got the tests back yesterday and all was great! Hormone levels were high and all looked good. Now we wait for his sperm test to come back (although its not likely to be a problem as he had already fathered a child before).So now I'm just frustrated and not sure where to go from here. Apparently I don't need medication to help, but something's just not right surely.....? It's been 2 years! Does anyone have any advice?ThanksMel

Sorry this journey has been so long for you. Some people have unexplained fertility, also don't be so sure your partner doesn't have low sperm. I know of someone who had child early, and when he and his second wife could not get pregnant they found out he had low sperm. Im not saying this to be mean be worry you but I know he was even more unprepared then most when they get their results back. If you are not keen on IVF or IUI (which I presume with no fertility issues would be your first point of call) you can look into natural therapies. They work for some people, and not others - just like IVF, IUI and the old fashion way.

I was about to come on and say the same thing...

Don't rule out your DH just because he already has a child. My XH had a child but when he went for his tests, going by the results, 'luck' was on his side when he was conceived.

But having said that, it could be a number of reason why you are finding it hard TTC. Have you just gone through a GP in regards to the tests you have had?

I'd ask for a referral to an OB/GYN .... My GP referred me after we were TTC for about 15months. My blood tests looked fine to my GP but the OB/GYN she referred me too, noticed that although all my hormone levels were within the "normal" range, one of my hormones was more indicative of a women going through menopause, and not a ovulating 29yr old. He put me on clomid, and had DH get some tests done.... it gave us a much better idea of what we were dealing with (I don't ovulate and DH has very low sperm morphology).

Hi ladies, thanks for your response!Yeh we are starting to get a bit worried pending his sperm test. But dr seems to think there shouldn't be a problem....Yes have only been to GP this far and pending the results of the test, may be referred on to IVF clinic and fertility specialist. I was hoping to find something in the meantime to try before having to go down that road as I've had a few friends TTC through IVF which completely drained their relationships.

wishing you all the best. I'd go and find a fertility specialist. I've had a difficult TTC journey as well and there are 100 things they can test for, including blood clotting disorders, hormones, genetic problems, and 'structural' things like blockages in your tubes, deformities in your uterus, etc.
I'm not saying that to try and scare you but to let you know there are lots more avenues you can pursue before IVF. Also, it takes a while to get through it all. It will also help you to figure out what (if anything) is wrong and give you some guidance about where to go next. They might also uncover something that can be fixed and help you conceive.
Also, are you up with OPKs, charting, knowing when you are ovulating and when is a good time to have sex to try and conceive etc? If not, get familiar with it...I think I spent a good while at the start of my TTC journey timing things wrong.

Yes I've been charting for around 12 months and speaking with friends etc about timing etc. I haven't tried temping etc yet but I'm trying to figure it all out. There's so much differing opinions on it all and what's the best way to do it and the best tests to do etc. it's all a little confusing to me so far but I'm looking into it! Ill report back when we get DH tests back.Thanks for all the advice so far! You're all lovely!
