Hi All, I have a 3 year old and have been TTC for 2 years/ I had some tests after one year and had some surgery to remove fibroids, I was then put on Clomid to help me ovulate. In june last year I fell pregnant and MC at 6 weeks, In November I then fell pregnant again but it was ectopic and I had to have surgery both tubes remained. A few weeks after this through doing many blood tests they found that the ectopic was not fully removed so I had a methotrexate injection on Dec 24th. as at today my level are back to 0 and the hospital drs told me I can start taking my folate my need to wait 3 months before TTC my private dr however has told me to wait 6 months!! Has anyone had any simlar stories? I am really struggling after this ectopic.. I think I am emotionally exhausted and just sad. Any shed some success stories of TTC after having something similar?
Thanks in advance to those that reply I have read lots of forums but have never really shared my story before.

Hello, this is my first time adding a comment on here too. I also had an ectopic last year with two methotrexate injections (no lose of tubes). I was advised that once my hcg levels were at zero, then to wait 3 months before trying. i would have thought as i needed 2 injections, the wait time would have doubled to 6months but my ob said that 3 months was fine. sorry to hear of your loss. this is my second loss, so im hoping 3rd time lucky for baby #1! maybe a second opinion just for re-assurance? Thats what i think i would do. Good luck xx

I haven't had methotrexate for an ectopic, but I was taking it weekly for arthritis. After having a chat to my specialist, she said that I needed at least 3 months after the methotrexate to clear the system before TTC. I was on a lower dose, but much more frequent (weekly dose for 3 years). 6 months is an old recommendation, but it also makes doubly sure it is all gone.
Unfortunately, methotrexate is really nasty stuff, it is a chemotherapy drug, and can cause birth defects and miscarriage if there is any in your system while pregnant. Also, ask your doctor for something like Megafol, as methotrexate can interfere with the uptake of folate, so you will need a larger dose. I take 10mg weekly on top of my TTC/pregnancy vitamins.

I also take Megafol now (higher dose folate)as suggested by my ob with preg vitamins, due to my last two experiences. As elizabethany suggested,we will need to wait at least 3 months due to the seriousness of Methotrexate.

Thanks everyone - I am definently going to wait 3 months as I dont think im emotionally ready to fall pregnant any sooner. It also usually takes me 3 months or so to actually conceive. To be honest Im a little scared and worried that the methtrexate will affect my baby.

Exactly, its just not worth risking! Our first loss, our baby had many abnormalities (no relation to our second loss being ectopic) and really dont want to experience that again. Best to wait and give our bodies a rest at the same time i think. Wishing you all the best.

It also depletes your B12 levels so get that checked too.

Katey glad to hear your success story. I'm hoping I will have one also, I def will start trying as soon as 3 months is up. It's a waiting game. I am hoping 2013 is a lucky year for us I'm not sure I could go through another loss.
Thanks for support everyone it's nice to have people to share this with.
