So this is prolly going to top today's charts for stupid question. But. I have been online window shopping for the baby that's not here yet. And I'm yet to buy a cot. Or a basinette. Or a cot matress. But I notice lots of places sell cots, matresses and bedding separately. And what I'm wondering, are cots and matresses a pretty standard size? Nothing seems to be sized as such, ie a fitted cot sheet is just a fitted cot sheet, no dimensions or size. Nor do the matresses as far as I can tell?? So if I was to buy a second hand cot, would it just be a case of buying *a* matress, as opposed to measuring the cot and getting an Xcm by Ycm matress? And if I saw cot sheets now that I fell in love with and wanted to buy, would I be guaranteed that would fit my matress or would I be pigeon holing myself into getting the right size cot and matress?

I'm doing my head in thinking about everything in such minute detail....I'm going to send myself batty I'm sure...

i think there is standard cots & bigger size cots such as the boori.

Some sheets say suit Boori cots on them which means they are a larger size. I have some standard size sheets for my larger cot mattress, they fit, but dont go down the sides of the mattress neatly.

^^ This. I had a boori cot and in my innocence did not realise that I needed bigger sheets that normal.

you must buy the recommended sized matress for the cot if you got the Boori size do not buy the smaller matress - its a Very big hazard (baby could get stuck down the side). When you buy your got it will tell you what size matress to buy

I know someone whos child this happened too and the baby fractured their arm trying to roll out

Yeah, I bought sheets after I had bought the cot. Though the mattress thickness is also one to think about. The sheets I bought are too long, height wise, for my mattress.

To solve the problem of bunching I use those ironing board clips (with the elastic, like these.. you can pick them up from most supermarkets or BigW/Kmart/Target etc.

I just clip the sheet underneath the mattress to pull it tight across the top. Makes it easier to tuck the top sheet in and no bunchy bit for my little guy to smoosh his face into along the sides of the cot.

I have a love n care cot. Its quite large and not all sheets fit.

As i have just discovered not all are equal... your mattress must be fitted to the cot, your linen to the mattress ... and please dont listen when the sales people tell you to just get a piece of foam cut to size... its not recommended for babys spine development ( something I was offered last week from a well known baby store)

I suggest you do your shopping in order ...cot, mattress, linen.....major retailers do sell linen that fits names like Boori so dont think it has to be special and more expensive....

We were given a cot, we were able to select a mattress from a baby retailer to fit, I think there are about 4 or so usual sizes...

We have a grow time cot it has the same size matress as the cots they sell at kmart and target (760 x 1300) - I have bought sheet form target and they are fine - perhaps even a bit big.
