I have been advised to add thickener to my DD's bottle & I'm worried it could lead to constipation.
How can I ensure she won't become constipated?

I gave DS2 one bottle of thickened formula at his last feed before I went to bed at night from newborn age onward and he didn't get constipated at all, but it did help him sleep a lot better and for longer. I used formula with probiotics to help prevent constipation and if he hadn't done a poo within two days I would give him Brauers Colic Relief, which helped to keep his digestive system going. Inner Health for kids is also good at helping to prevent constipation and can be used for kids 3 months and over.

Can i ask the reason for the thickener?

DD had Reflux so she needed a thicker formula. I gave her Novalac AR(sp?) Which doesnt thicken until its in their belly. My DD nevver got constipated

Just thought I'd add, DD is on AR formula so quite thick & has never been constipated, so thickenin

g formula doesn't necessarily cause constipation in all bubs. A little infants friend should also help if it does become an issue, it acts as a mild laxative

We added the Karicare thickener to DS2s normal Nan HA formula. We added held the suggested amount (hence why on thickener added rather then AR formula as we could control the thickness).

No constipation issues. We forgot to add thickener to a bottle at 9m.... Result was whole bottle up chucked within 5 mins (yes I had a bucket beside me luckily and caught contents and measured. Decided then to continue thickener).

DS had AR formula for a short time, I think from 4-8 weeks, and we never had any constipation issues (it also didn't help him sleep any better, which is why he was taken off it as it was determined reflux was not the problem)
