My DS has a history of ear infections, when he was 10 months we saw the ENT who put in grommets. We saw him again a few weeks ago and 1 grommet has fallen out, he wants to wait for the other grommet to fall out and will then probably operate again to replace the grommets and remove the adenoids.

Today the daycare staff told my DH on pick up that they are a bit concerned about DS's hearing as a few times they have been right behind him calling him and he doesn't seem to notice.

Now that they have mentioned it we have noticed some issues as well but put it down to other things...

If we want to get his hearing checked do we go back to the ENT before his Easter appointment? Or do we see the gp? How do we go about it?

You can get hearing checked privately or you can see if your ENT has Audiologist attached to his practice.

I would be getting hearing checked.

DS2 was a late talker like DS1 so we didn't think anything until he was 2.5yrs and talking more and sounded like he was talking underwater. Hearing test showed moderate hearing loss and fluid filled ears. Even with grommets in just before he turned 3 it was still not until over 4yrs that he got a normal hearing test finally.

At 5yrs we are doing major catchup in speech and language and social skills which were lost due to hearing loss.

DS2 also only had had one ear infection as a child.

Eta we have seen private audiologist in between ENT visits to know where DS2s hearing is at. Sometimes the results had us going back to ENT earlier then previously booked. We are still seeing ENT at 5.5yrs.

You might find his other grommet has fallen out now.

My hearing was still ok with 1 in, but it went downhill when the 2nd fell out.

Maybe rebook an appointment with the ENT again.
