Hi,

Baby girl (14 months) has been really off since October. She was sick then (virus) and hasn’t really recovered. She has been quite sick on and off all her life, always told it is a virus.


These are her symptoms

- Swollen lymph nodes present in her head and neck since October

- Swollen right nipple

- Excessive crying and sooking, even when asleep (yes, I am extremely sleep deprived)

- Constantly holds her head and ears

- Night sweats

- Low weight gain (officially diagnosed with failure to thrive)


- Constant scratching at lymph nodes while whining

- Vomiting after feeds

- Occasional purple feet

- Barely eats, refuses everything I offer her

- Falling over more and more

- Gagging on nothing

My GP was concerned and did a full blood evaluation on her. It ruled out leukemia but not lymphoma as she had a marker for it. Also showed the urea levels are high.

We were sent for an ultrasound on the nodes in her head today that showed that the nodes are swollen but not looking suspicious. That said, the scan was done in under a minute with no measurements taken of any nodes. I am unsure how they could've properly checked them when she was so wriggly and sooky.
I've done some reading and ultrasounds don't detect lymphoma. I have no idea why they even ordered that test.

The ultrasound on her nipple back in October showed that it was normal glandular tissue (just seems she has more on that side)

Our GP is stumped and has sent us to a paed who we have an appointment with tomorrow.

Anyone have any clues or gone through a similar thing? Like I said, we are seeing the paed tomorrow.

Oh gosh OP how stressful for you and your poor DD i really hope you get some answers soon.

Certainly no answers from me. Glad you are going to the paed, just keep pushing and trust your instincts that things aren't right. Specialists are very hard to get appts with so you will need to keep strong and push, push, push sometimes.

Good luck and hope your LO gets better. It doesnt sound normal by any means.

Good luck with the paed. I'm on a periodic fevers forum and there are also a lot of undiagnosed diseases out there too. My daughter ended up having Muckle Wells Syndrome, but there are plenty of children without a diagnosis. I hope the paed has answers for you, but if not and you feel something is not right, keep asking questions and recording symptoms and they might be able to work it out eventually.

Hi there, sorry you're going through this, it can be very stressfull.

I don't have any answers for you, but my son has some similar symptoms so thought i would share our story so far...


He is 15 months and has had severe eczema since 3 months old, we have had it under control now since about 12 months with only occasional mild flare ups.

He has also had enlarged lymph nodes on his head, neck and body since about 4-5 months, most of these they believe were due to the eczema, but he has a very prominent one on his neck (approx. 1.5cm+ that can be seen at all times) that has never gone way even with antibiotics and no signs of other infection.

He is also low weight at 7.6kg at last check with no weight gained in the last 3months, but our paed is taking a 'wait and see' approach with everything (we are currently in the process of changing paeds :/)

He also has had very blue hands and feet on occasion and was diagnosed with Raynauds phenomenon, although again, no more investigation was done, it was just 'labeled' ...i have noticed lately that they don't turn as blue as often anymore. Maybe your DD has similar? It may or may not be related to her other symptoms?

Another thing could be allergies, is your DD allergic to anything that you're aware of?


This is probably not much help to you, but you wanted to let you know you are not alone and we are currently investigating similar things with our DS...i hope you get some answers soon

Here is what his answers were for everything...

Swollen lymph nodes present in her head and neck since October (most babies have this...)
- Swollen right nipple (No answer, ultrasound was clear)

- Excessive crying and sooking, even when asleep (behavioural/attention seeking)

- Constantly holds her head and ears (behavioural/attention seeking)

- Night sweats (Didn't comment)


- Low weight gain (I give her too much milk/water so she doesn't want to eat)

- Constant scratching at lymph nodes while whining (behavioural/attention seeking)

- Vomiting after feeds (behavioural/attention seeking)

- Occasional purple feet (cold - even with night sweats)

- Barely eats, refuses everything I offer her (Give her too much milk/water)

- Falling over more and more (behavioural/attention seeking)

- Gagging on nothing (behavioural/attention seeking)

Apparently my baby is a naughty attention seeker.

We are travelling to the closest Children's Hospital tomorrow for a further opinion (3 hours away - just going to emergency)
