I put my vacuum cleaner against the garage wall, didn't see it and hit it with my car, because I'm just clever like that!

The car and vacuum cleaner are ok but there is a hole in the wall. I rent so want to get it fixed asap. I was going to go to the property manager and ask who he recommends but need to have an idea of the cost first.

I don't want to fix it myself and think it will look better if I own up to it and pay for it straight away. I would really like to have my lease renewed.

Does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to repair? It's about 20cm long and not terribly wide.

We had a similar mini disaster. I looked in the local newspaper classifieds and found a "no job too small" plasterer who fixed it for $40.

Take a photo and go to Bunnings and they could help out.

I would get a handy man in to fix it, or someone you know who is handy. If you mention it the the RE, they will want a top-notch done with an expensive tradesman. The tradesmen the RE employ/use/recommend are always costly. If you say you'll fix it yourself, they'll go over it with a microscope trying to find fault.

I was climbing in my linen press and fell backwards and put my butt throught he gyproc wall. DP fixed it for around $80 i think.

If you live in a unit, try to find out who the body corporate managers are and see if there is accidental damage on the insurance policy, the owner may have it also in their policy, this could save you heaps.

I'd also take a photo to Bunnings. We had a large section of plaster and gyprock lining come away after water damage. I fixed it myself for about $30 of materials and you would never know the difference. But its our house...

I'd probably get a couple of quotes from handymen and then contact the RE and explain the situation and say you are happy to go ahead and organise/pay for repairs. They should be happy with that.

What is the wall made of?

It's made of plasterboard I think? It's papery on the out side with a crumbly material behind. I image it would need touch up paint.

I just don't want the manger to find out I got it fixed and think I was trying to hide the damage. I don't rent through a real estate agent. The property development company that built the complex manages the letting as well. They are normally extremely nice to deal with and the rental manager is an ex-tradie himself.

I would never dream of trying to claim through someone else's insurance policy. It's not fair to have their claims history/premiums affected for my mistake.
