Im trying to find out if getting a huge surgical bandaid is standard. Did you have one? I had one and it was GREAT - no postop care, especially when it's the last thing on yr mind.

The bandaid was a huge waterproof seethru thing you remove after 5-7 days. I also had dissolvable stitches. Very very good experience.

I wonder if I get a Cscet this time around will I have to specifically request this from the OB or is it standard? I want the same experience as last time and DEFINITELY no drain or staples - they are from the past, right?

I had that too, I think they took it off on day 3 before sending me home. Also had dissolvable stitches. Just had to be gentle when washing/drying and pat dry the incision area

Opsite/Tegaderm is the dressing of choice for almost all Obstetricians. Dissolving and subcut sutures are also most often used but may not be used if there has been excessive bleeding when they may use interrupted sutures or staples as the blood can better ooze in between them.
Good luck

I also had dissolvable stitches, a couple of steri-strips and the big 'bandaid' which my OB removed after checking my wound and sending me home on day 5.

I didn't have any stitches/staples etc that were visible on the outside, I did have the opsite for the first day or 2.

I had a drain (history of pph so I guess that was why, it sucked!) yes big bandaid, no visible stitches at all either time. Didn't have to do anything special to care for the wound at all.

I had what I'm assuming is what Soon to be Gran is talking about. I had disolvable stitches, and then this glue like stuff that was smothered over the top, which was waterproof, and just kind of rubbed away after about a week (might have been more or less than that, can't remember). it was fabulous though, I had absolutely no issues with either of my c/s wounds, and so little scaring that you can barely tell where my Ob cut. Very happy with it!

We use hyperfix on our C/S wounds. Can be left on for up to 10 days. Pat dry and if necessary, use a hair dryer on low heat to dry completely. It is known to help reduce scarring too. Should be available at any chemist. original.gif
