We are looking for an Eastern European boy's name and Maks (short for Maksim) fits the bill and I prefer this spelling to the ubiquitous Max.

Too eweneek?!

The other name on our short list is Luka but both our DDs names end with 'a'.

Eta google Maks and Peta from DWTS lol

Because I am odd, Maks doesn't really do it for me, but Maksim and Mak for short is good, I have always liked Mack/Mac/Mak as a nickname.

Just Maks feels contrived, and no I can't justify that at all.

I love Eastern European boys' names so I guess you can write that off as me being jus' jellus. (I am.)

I don't mind Maksim. But Maks is a whole new level of 'no' for me sorry.

I agree with the PP above, Maksim with the NN Mak works well but Maks is awful.

I much prefer Luca to Maks/Max.

To the naughty corner with you for wanting to inflict this one on a poor little one! What is wrong with the more logical spelling of Maxim if you really like the sound of Maksim? Maks? Unfathomable!!!!!!!

Maks hurt my eyes. It just looks really wrong, sorry.

I like Luca and I don't think it matters that you already have two names ending in 'a'.

Pretty dreadful. Sorry OP.

Luca is a lovely name (although Luka is too uneek for me).
