I hurt my ankle last Sunday night in a strange way. Got up in the middle of the night and when I put my right foot on the ground it gave way. I had no sensation in it & could not bear weight on it. Half asleep, took another step and same thing happened, this time not only rolling my ankle but smashed it into the skirting board. Took another step to try and get back to bed and same thing happened.

Anyway..had intense pain at the time. A lot of pain the next day and could only walk with my foot on the side, pressure applied to the outer bone of the foot. Lots of swelling but no bruising. Pain got lesser & lesser. By now, the pain is only there in certain positions (ie if toes are pointed, pulled back, or I try and sit on my knees) but the swelling is almost as bad as it was the morning after.

Has been a very long time since I last hurt my ankle, so just wondering when I should expect swelling to go down r should I see my physio? Didn't bother getting it checked out as I just assumed it is a sprain/strain and Dr couldn't do much.

If you have trouble walking on it, or there is pain after 3 days, get it checked out.

You need to get an X-ray just in case. You may have broken a small bone. Even for a sprain you can get advice on how to treat it.

Oh really? I wouldn't have even thought of the bone as the pain isn't horrendous still (like it was when I broke my toe).
Will go to the drop in clinic this arvo then original.gif
Thanks

I have a broken ankle (done early Sun morning) and the pain is/was nowhere near what i thought a broken bone would be and mine is pretty serious as its broken at the base of my leg where it joins my ankle and displaced so I am having to have surgery to get a plate implanted.
I would def get an Xray

Yes get it checked. Dh hurt his ankle on New Year's Day 2012 and it bruised from halfway down his calf to his toes and swelled up. He still gets pain and swelling now, over a year later and he never got it checked.

I went to the Drs & they sent me for an ultrasound??? Will get the results from it tonight, or if not have to go in tomorrow. Will ask for an x-ray if nothing shows on the ultrasound. They have strapped it at least....and of all the times (and places) for the lift to be broken too

Geez Fefe hope you are ok!

Well the ultrasound just said I have sprained it in the past but okay now...no surprise really as the pain is on the bone.
The Dr has made me get a blood pregnancy test done before he will give me an xray request. Have never in my life had to do this. Can understand if I needed a pelvic xray but not my foot
