Because I am awake at this ungodly hour and have just read that endless other thread about slack things you do, I saw this:

QUOTE
Some people don't have bits that need mopping? My whole house is floorboards and tiles (we have no carpet) so I mop. In my case, I don't need to own a vacuum cleaner.

I have only ever known to vacuum before mopping to get all the chunky bits (like, crumbs, hair and dust). Wouldn't mopping without vacuuming first just push all the chunky bits around the floor and even though you have mopped, the floor would still look....errrrr.....dirty? huh.gif

Are my mother and I (and a couple of other people I know) the only ones who always vacuum before they mop?

Genuine question.

I'm awake too (I can never go back to sleep after the 4am newborn night feed!).
I always vacuum before I mop too. Maybe the poster that doesn't have a vacuum just sweeps with a broom before mopping?

I have shiny tiles, I vacuum before I mop otherwise the dirt just gets pushed around the tiles. Sweeping doesn't get rid of all the loose bits.

Maybe they sweep? I would think it pointless to mop if you havnt swept or vacuumed first.

I always vaccum before mopping. I even run the vaccum over the bathroom and laundry.

Not only does it push all the stuff around the floor it's most likely to get stuck in your mop. I've ruined a mop or two from not vacuuming first.
