Hi, my nearly 12 month old appears to have a vomiting bug.....
I'm not seeking medical advice here ...I haven't taken him to the GP for what I believe to be a 24 hour gastro bug, but if he isn't improved by tomorrow I will.... He is keeping water down and some of those pedialyte things, he doesn't have a fever and doesn't have diarrhoea .....I've been to a few websites and there seems to be a bit of differing advice about whether or not to offer them food or bottles as normal... He is not breast fed anymore...he is on three meals a day plus snacks and has around 180 ml of formula in a bottle after his bath....I'm just wondering whether or not to give him this....would you? I know robin barker had a page or so on this in her baby love book but I can't find my copy.. Thanks, and I'm only after recommendations on what you would do here, I am not after medical advice..... |

I called health direct the first time DS had the gastro. They were very helpful, I recommend looking up the number and giving them a quick call.
Hope your little one is well again soon and your household remains healthy! |

try small offerings of bland foods such as toast if he is i terested. it is more important to make sure he keeps fuilds up so offer water, or diluted apple juice frequently as it has sugars which will help him, only apple though.

Thanks! I offered him some apple puree but that came right back up, he is keeping down some gastrolyte and water in a bottle....he seems alert enough, he's in bed now. I will keep an eye on him.....sigh....I hate gastro....

just keep an eye on wet nappies to make sure he is doing enough wee and watch his lips to make sure they are not dry as that is a sign of dehydration. dd is the queen of dehydration, it can happy very quickly.
hope your little guy feels better soon and that no one else gets it |

I would stay away from milk until 12 hours after the vomiting stops. I'd also hold off on food for at least the next 12 hours.
Good luck with the GP, I hope he is well soon. |

It first happened to ds at a little older. I was still rbeast feeding which made it easier, but the GP said q avoid cows milk. I let him sip at the pedalyte all day long, and offered rice crackers and bananas.
hope he feels better soon. |

Mum used to give us grated apple when we were sick.
Also I read it's best if you let it go a bit brown as it helps with the digestion( partly done for you or something) but that sounds weird! |

We've just been through the dreaded gastro and I would stay away from dairy for a while. once he stops vomiting you could offer him some lactose-free formula, or something like zymil seeing as he's nearly 1 for a few days.....

Thanks everyone! He had some dry toast and I diluted some apple juice.....he's been asleep for some time now, so fingers crossed. I will hold off on the bottle....I remember when DS1 got the dreaded gastro it would leave him with a kind of lactose intolerance for a while, so I might go and get a lactose free formula...
