Is anyone else having to get their NT scan done privately? I've booked in at flinders medical centre for my antenatal care which is a public hospital but apparently they don't offer NT scans so I have to get a referral from my gp to have it done elsewhere. It seems abit odd to me seeing as when I had my daughter it was done at the hospital afew days after my first antenatal appt...I had her at a different hospital but I thought it was something all hospitals provided

Three years ago when I was having DS 3 they were routinely done. I rang today to book mine and was.told that unless it was for a risk factor that there would be no medicare rebate. Apparently they have changed the eligibility. Maybe that's why it's not offered. FWIW all if my scans everytime were at a clinic off site and not affiliated with the hospital.

I was told the same thing about Flinders (it is where we are having this one). I actually preferred having the scan (and I did the same with all the rest) done at Bensons because it meant that I got to make it or a time that actually suited me and I didn't have to go to Flinders and park etc which is a pain!

Gp, actual blood test done by nurse and scan were free. But I did just receive a invoice from VIctorian clinical genetics service for $100.30. Some can be claimed by Medicare but i think its crap they don't tell you it costs money. (I would have had the test done regardless just hate unexpected bills)
ETA, also not from here but thought I'd post about this hidden cost.

I am not in your due in group, (Due in Feb actually!) but I don't know anywhere in Vic where you can have the 12 week scan for free. Most hospitals now also require you to have the 20 weeks scan done privately/externally unless you are high risk.
I am a health care card holder and the blood tests were free at my GP, however I had to pay for the scan at a private ultrasound provider, which was around $285 and I think I only got about $90 back. Only 10.30 came back from the 100.30 for the blood screen, so that it a large amount of out of pocket, and I reached the threshold too.

Hmmm seems to be common practice now then. Not worried about the expense as I have a pension concession card so I don't have to pay for blood tests and scans just thought it was odd since last time it was done at the hospital. Will be getting the blood test tomoro and will get form to hopefully get the ultrasound this week. I do have a high risk pregnancy as I have cin 3 cervical abnormalities that they are monitoring over the pregnancy and I may have to deliver early if it gets worse through out but I guess this scan isn't a necessity, I just want see bub again.

@naturalgoodness I do like the idea of booking in when it suits me too and I live down the road from a Benson's so I'll be able to walk there.

i did the blood test today and the 12 weeks tomorrow afternoon, the blood test was $120 after spending $130 the day before seeing the GP and another $320 for the 12 scan. i so cant remeber paying for the blood test and paying that much for the scan.???

My scan at Lake Imaging yesterday cost me $185
4 years ago at a different place it cost me $110

Yours sounds very expensive, I havent recieved the bill for my blood tests yet but 4 years ago that $90

I am private and i had mine on Monday cost me $390 for the scan and i think i have to pay $85 for teh blood test

I don't mind i love the ultrasound place i go to and they have the best equipment

Chloe's mum I had my midwife appointment at Lyell Mac in Elizabeth Vale and they made me an appointment at a local ultrasound clinic and the scan was free... I had free bloods through our local path lab too - that sucks you had to pay!! Should be the same for everyone... Midwives were great though!! Such secretaries - had all my appointments booked in up until 22 weeks Hope they sort something out for you...
