Our Dyson smells horrid! It's worse when it is on but is also detectable when it's in the cupboard. We've had to move it to be stored in the garage as it was stinking out the laundry. It is 3 years old and this is the second bout of 'smelliness' we've had. The last time we found a lot of gunk in the hose and stick part and pulled it all out and rinsed it and the smell went. We've done the same thing this time but the smell remains. Any ideas on what could be causing it and even more importantly how to get rid of it. I truly love my Dyson but this issue is straining our relationship!

Clean your filter and hang it out to dry for as long as you can. I once put mine back in slightly wet and boy did it stink!

I agree with the clean the filter option. Also call Dyson. They were fantastic with my brand new cleaner that kept losing suction in the vacuum head. Ended up sending it back in for a complete overhaul and it is perfect now.

If it were my Dyson it would be because I'd been vacumning up the food off the floor (and kitchen bench and dining room table...)....

Thanks everyone. I do clean the filter ... but perhaps not as regularly as I should. The wet filter thing could be it as DH put it back in last time and I thought to myself that it probably wasn't dry. And, yep a lot of food gets sucked up ..... off to clean the filter ....

We got mould in our hand held Dyson recently, due to all the food scraps my husband vacuums up with it.
Good clean out and dry and it's good as new.
Possibly try bi carb in the main part9where the dirt goes) to help absorb smells.
