I have my best friend: my DH.
I have my best girlfriends & best mates: they don't change; they know who they are... and they've been more or less the same folk on & off for years through thick & thin.
But I find I always have a "best buddy of the moment" in different seasons of my life.
Eg: at the moment there's this woman at work who is significantly younger than me but she's the only girl at work who i would call a friend not just someone i work with. We're always happy to see eachother, she tells me lots about what's going on in her life and i share with her too. We catch up outside of work and I feel like she just "gets me" at this point in my life and I guess i know that it's nothing like my other best friendships, in that, if i were to quit my job today i don't know for sure whether or not we would stay in contact but RIGHT NOW she's the friend i'm keen to see, to catch up with, the one i say "ooh, i can't wait to see ****** and tell her about this!!"
Do you go through phases like this? Or is it just me?
Sometimes i feel a little friend-poor. I wonder if it will be different when we have kids and i meet parents my kids' friends at school/daycare/playgroup etc? What have been your experiences of friendships as you've become parents... have they gotten better or worse? Have you stayed friends with people who don't have kids? Have you found it increasingly difficult to catch up with friends who have kids when you have kids and you have to juggle it all?

We tend to go through phases. I used to think that I would have the one best friend (aside from my husband) and we would be best friends forever and ever . I have soon realised that people are often coming and going in our lives. We have our old faithful friends which funnily enough we don't see that often anymore, but we are now mixing with a lot of school parents and I'm finding that lots of fun, but have also realised that yes if our kids changed schools, would we really still keep in touch.

I have also lost contact with a lot of people I used to work with and see day in day out at work, but life changes and we do move on from people.
