We are moving from NSW to WA due to DH's work.

For those of you who have done this, any tips for me/us? (Company DH works for is relocating us so we will have removalists who come in and pack the house.)

I haven't done it but I'm stalking. We're looking at a big move but it's the other side of the world in our case so I'm throwing around my options. It's very daunting.

Have you found a place here in WA yet?

Do a clean out before the packing begins. It really isn't much different to moving house, its just further away, so do what you would normally do when moving house.

We moved to Perth and back. WA is awesome, enjoy your move.

I tried to update my details with as many appropriate places (electoral role, tax office etc) as I could before actually moving. Make sure you have your mail re-directed and I would do it for 12 months (min).

Basically I wrote a list of everything that I needed to do or address, to make sure that I did it! You don't realise just how much there is to consider when moving interstate...

I found my car and health insurances changed dramatically - it might be worth phoning your insurance companies to find out if there is a major difference in price, as you may wish to change providers. Also find out the process for changing your drivers licenses and car regos - it is different in every state.

If you have children who will be attending a new school, I would also be on the phone to the school to discuss this and their transition.

I also started packing 6 months before I actually moved, itemised all my boxes and knew what was where, which made it easier unpacking at the other end.

We moved to Saudi Arabia this year, loved every minute so far. If you have the chance to experience living in a different country, I'd say jump at the chance!!

Thanks for the replies so far.

No house as yet - waiting to hear back from the company in regards to this.

As for school we can't get that organised until we know where the house will be as the town we are moving to is zoned. (Tiny bit frustrating!)

Unfortunately, I won't have six months! It's looking like we'll have about six weeks.

DH is looking into rego, etc.

Planning on having a major tidy up/chuck out in the next few weeks - the trading rooms might be getting a work out!!

Where are you moving to?

Don't stress about the packing - we moved interstate (back to WA) with 3 weeks' notice and during that time, I had a baby. The packers will just pack everything and you can sort it out at the other end if you run out of time. Tell them not to pack your toilet brush/es.
