Hi, I was walking at about 10 weeks with my first pregnancy and had terrible pain - I thought I was miscarriage. Turns out it was ligament and pelvic pain. I had a pubis separation from around then. But, I have a fairly significant joint problem when not pregnant also.

I am only experiencing it for the first time and it started around 25 weeks, however my OB told me that it usually starts earlier with subsequent pregnancies.
Start seeing a physio with pregnancy experience and definitely get a support belt. Mine has been so useful, I only really use it for doing things around the house etc, but it does help greatly. Hope that helps. |

HI there
I started to experience SPD around 11 weeks this preg. This is my second child. I went to a physio specialising in preg-related issues very soon after and continued to see the physio until I was about 22 weeks on a fortnightly basis. Each time I received massage and a check to make sure it wasn't getting worse, given appropriate exercises to carry out at home, and I've been wearing tubigrip since about 16 weeks. I'm happy to say that my SPD this preg is no where near as severe as with my first. I don't even have to wear the tubigrip constantly. I still experience pain on a daily basis, have some mobility limitations, and have a massive waddle but again, not to the degree in my first preg. I'm now 34+3weeks. Best advice I've ever received from a Dr: let them know asap, so they can refer you to a physio and you can get started on preventative measures as well as later being monitored for coping measures. And definitely start with a tubigrip if you feel the need. HTH. Cheers. This post has been edited by Studybug: 20/01/2013, 06:15 PM |

First pregnancy 12 weeks, this pregnancy 8 weeks. Get to a physio, they are brilliant.

I had trouble starting from 8 weeks, but I'd had problems pre-pregnancy. According to my physio, relaxin (the hormone that softens your ligaments in pregnancy) peaks at about 14 weeks. It can get worse after then because you're starting to carry more weight, or it can get better as your baby's body starts to hold everything in position better.
I recommend a specialist women's health physio, too. |
