hi ladies,
Ihave just opened a can of condensed milk used by october 2013 once i have tipped it into my biscuit mix i noticed that the condensed milk had started to thicken in the bottom of the can and i had to scrap it out rather then the normal pour. my question is would you use it or would you throw it out. i have never seen this before so i am not sure if it was about to go off.thank you |

When we lived in Zimbabwe the condensed there was often a bit weird - I think it sometimes got a bit cooked transit. If it smells fine and the tin was not dented or anything I would probably use it.

I would, but I always scrape the tin to make sure I get all of it out.
As PP said, as long as the tin hadn't been damaged at all, I would think it was still fine. |

It'd be fine. I find it does that sometimes, and I've never had an issue. Still tasted good, too good.

It can get thicker at the bottom if some of the sugar falls out of solution, it is fine, just scrape it out. There is actually so much sugar in condensed milk that it will not go off like normal milk, and can be left in a cupboard unsealed for a few weeks.

Why don't you taste it and see? Make sure you get a good range of samples from all parts of the can, to ensure flavour consistency...

As long as the tin is undamaged, the contents will be fine. Tinned food carries a best before date not a use by date. That means that up to that date, the contents will be exactly as you expect. After that date, there may be changes to the contents that affect the texture and consistency, but they won't be spoiled.
