My BF lives in Blackwood and has done for years with her 3 kids. I can give you what I know about the area via what I know from her.

Schoolwise she chose the lutheran primary rather than the public primary and is very happy with it. They are also choosing private for high school and the reviews about Blackwood High are mixed. Not a school I would choose.

Yes, it is in a fire danger area and they take the catastrophic fire days seriously and have plans in place if anything were to happen.

It has a very strong sense of community and a lot of her friends are people from the suburb she has met through church, school and different activities with kids. Church seems to be a big part of the community in this area.

It is cool in summer (lovely on hot nights) but holy moly it is freezing in winter. I drive up to visit and it is COLD! Much colder than the suburbs below the hills.

Location wise it is not that far from the city BUT I dont know what peak hour is like down the hill, a bit of a pain I think. Out of peak hour it is easy, we often meet at Burnside, Unley Rd or Mitcham and it certainly doesnt worry me driving up to visit. It is also very close to Marion for shopping.

She loves living there. I like central Blackwood and find it very small town feeling with nice coffee shops and small shops dotted on the Main Street.

We lived in Blackwood for over ten years. My DD attended St Johns Grammar. Belair Primary had a great reputation. Unley High was a popular choice for public schooling too.

We would get a fire pack from the CFS in the mail every year with all fire safety tips inside. We used to keep our gutters clean and grass short for our own peace of mind.

I never saw any snakes but there were lots of blue tongue lizards and plenty of koalas in our trees. It was lovely.

I loved the local shopping and it really has a lovely community feel about the place.

We moved to Queensland five years ago and really miss living there.

My sister lives in Hawthorndene and loves it. Her children go to Hawthorndene Primary and Hawthorndene Kindergarten and she's very happy with both. However, she's currently investigating options for secondary schooling as she does not want them going to Blackwood High.

She did find a snake in one of her daughter's gumboots one day a few years back!

We live in the suburb next to Blackwood - Coromandel Valley. Love it.

We moved from down Prospect a few years ago and it's the best decision we've made. Coromandel Valley Primary School is great and it's zoned. We'll be skipping Blackwood High and probably going private

Car ride to the city is the same as when we were just north of the city

No issues with catastrophic fire days, we've got a plan and a fireproof safe but that's about as far as we've needed
