I've just found out I'm having another boy and I am trying to come up with a strong traditional name
We have narrowed it to William and James but have pros and cons for both.
Our other son is Alexander James and we have a 2 syllable surname starting with B
I'm worried that William is way to common but would love to know what you think....and any other ideas

I prefer James to William but you've used James as your other son's middle name already so I'm not sure why it's up for consideration again? I'd definitely go with William in your situation.

Suggestions:

Alexander and Connor
Alexander and Matthew
Alexander and Michael
Alexander and Liam
Alexander and Lucas
Alexander and Micah
Alexander and Flynn

I love both but would probably go for William in your circumstances. I don't really worry about it being common, but probably because that was my dearly loved father's name and would be the name we'd use for a boy, whether everyone used it or nobody.

Other names along those lines (in my mind): Hugh or Callum.

Also love Alexander! Gorgeous.

I also have an Alexander James and we too had a son as our second child.

We called him James Thomas, we didn't think it mattered if James was used again and are really happy with our choice. original.gif

I think they're both good. In your case, I'd be slightly hesitant to use James if it's your first son's middle name, but I don't really see the issue if it doesn't bother you.

William by a million miles. I've always liked it and love NN Will.

In my universe James is the most overused name I could possibly conjure.

I'm going to say James! My son is James Alexander so we probably have similar tastes.

If a cat doesn't like you, then what's wrong with you?
I wouldn't use James if you've already used it. I like both names so would go William.
