Hi,
Can anyone please recommend me a sewing machine (entry level if possible) that can do embroidery names on fabric? Thanks. |

Most sewing machines can embroider. What you do is just put the smooth plate that normally comes with the machine over the feed dogs (darning plate), then just write the name or draw your design on the fabric with tailor pencil. Then put the fabric in an embroidery hoop. Then sew with close zig zag stitches of your choice moving the hoop slowly as you follow the design.
This is obviously for a non computerised machine. I'm still living in the dark ages though. I can't recommend a computerised machine that automatically does it. But just letting your know that embroidering is pretty simple even with non-computerised machines. So if you have an old machine chances are you can still use it to embroider names. Just buy a darning plate to cover the feed dogs if you don't have one, and a suitable hoop for the fabric. This post has been edited by SarahM72: 18/01/2013, 10:55 PM |

I have a Janome 350e which is great. It is embroidery only, so you need a second machine for sewing. Although it is the Janome entry level embroidery machine, it is still a bit pricey.
